Apple’s 73% UK tablet market share is going to fall
ComTech says that 4.62 million people own tablet computers in the UK and Apple has 73% market share with the Apple iPad.
They also said that tablet users are growing rapidly but only 50% of people said they would buy a Apple iPad next year, the second most popular tablet is the Samsung Galaxy tab and it has only 6% market share.
And 28% of people are unsure about which tablet to get, iPad on one hand and Samsung Galaxy on the other not to forget about all the other great tablets coming out such as the Sony tablets.
From the day Apple launched the iPad in April 2010 the tablet market started and they opened the doors for other brands to re-innovate.
People use tablets for allot of things reading ebooks and online newspapers, to downloading apps, playing games and running a business, not all tabs have 3G connectivity but a massive 43% of owners use them while travelling.
The global consumer insight director for Kantar Dominic Sunnebo, said: “Apple’s achievements in this market are clearly linked to its success in the smartphone market: 80% of people who already own an iPhone and plan to purchase a tablet intend to buy an iPad. This is clearly something other manufacturers will have to contend with.”
He is so right, iPhone users buy iPads and Samsung phone users buy Galaxy’s its a simple observation but a smart one, the key is getting your smartphone users to buy your tablets – i mean i’m an iphone user i wouldn’t go out and buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab maybe as a secondary tablet but not as a primary.
Tablet users have to be comfortable with the idea of buying one because normal everyday people don’t understand the difference between a laptop and a tablet they say the iPad is over priced when its the cheapest in its range they think you can do everything a iPad can do and more on a laptop but don’t understand the experience a device like the ipad gives you.
Only 16% of users say they have a decent knowledge of tablets which is only about 2 million people, which seems quite small to me i mean im sure if i did a survey 100% of people would say they know what a ipad is and could most likely know how to use one with a bit of time.
The survey also found that:
• 16% of consumers say they have a “strong” knowledge of tablets
• 3% say they have “no” knowledge of tablets
• 90% of tablet owners have connected them to a Wi-Fi network at home
• 41% of tablet owners have connected to a Wi-Fi network outside their home
What do you think about tablets do you own one? if so how do you use it and what for?
